Dr Oscar Duke has launched Bedside Manners, a brand-new podcast series produced by Pixiu. Hosted by medical doctor and BBC1’s Morning Live GP, the weekly podcast launches today and delves into the lives of his guests through the lens of their personal health journeys.
This is a podcast about what happens when life and medicine collide – and how people overcome, adapt and thrive in the face of life’s health challenges. Each week, Oscar is joined by a guest who opens up about the challenges they’ve faced with their health – from chronic conditions and everyday health hurdles to life-altering surgeries – and how those experiences shaped their life’s achievements and path to success.
Guests will also be discussing some of the incredible and surprising bedside manners they’ve encountered along the way, as well as bringing along burning questions about their conditions, answered by top specialists and leading medical experts to explain the science, bust myths and offer guidance. At the end of each episode, Dr Oscar is joined by a consultant from HCA Healthcare to delve a bit deeper into each celebrity’s medical condition.
Confirmed guests for the first series include:
Paul Whitehouse, on life with heart disease
Miriam Margolyes, discussing ageing, knee replacements and heart surgery
Julia Bradbury, reflecting on her breast cancer journey
Jenny Powell, sharing her experience with menopause and hysterectomy
Ade Adepitan, speaking on polio and navigating life as a wheelchair user
Aljaž Škorjanec, on Psoriasis
Lorraine Kelly & Rosie Smith, discussing pregnancy
Chloe Meadows, speaking on Colitis
Mark Mardell & Nick Mostyn, reflecting on life with Parkinson’s
Dr Oscar Duke brings not only clinical expertise but also deep empathy. Born with the genetic condition of albinism and registered severely visually impaired at birth, Oscar was once told a medical career was way beyond his reach. He proved everyone wrong. Now a practising GP, author and resident doctor on BBC1’s Morning Live, he brings a unique and personal understanding of the healthcare experience – both as a doctor and a patient. Oscar brings compassion, clarity and a dose of humour to conversations that are too often shrouded in fear and shame.
Oscar’s broadcast career began on 24 Hours in A&E and has since included award-winning documentaries like Born Too White (BBC2), alongside appearances across BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. His first book, How to Be a Dad, was published in 2019.
Oscar says: “We all face health challenges – some are invisible, others are life-changing. I want this podcast to show that your diagnosis doesn’t define you. These stories are about strength, grit, hope and humour in the face of adversity – and the kind of compassion we all need when facing our own health journeys.”
With warmth, honesty and curiosity, Bedside Manners brings the human stories behind medical experiences to the forefront – with empathy, insight, and plenty of heart.
Bedside Manners is available now on all major podcast platforms with new episodes every Tuesday.
