Where Is Daniel Morcombe? the Tragic Tale of an Abducted Boy - A New True Crime Podcast by Sony Music and Campside Media
Sony Music Entertainment and Campside Media, in association with Pacesetter Productions, announced the premiere of, Where Is Daniel Morcombe?, a gripping eight-episode investigative podcast that explores the tragic abduction of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe and the extraordinary fight for justice that followed. Hosted by writer/director Matt Angel, Where Is Daniel Morcombe? takes listeners on an intimate journey with Daniel’s family as they pursue answers in a case that has had a lasting impact on Australia, and around the globe. Subscribers to The Binge can listen to all episodes today.
On December 7, 2003, Daniel disappeared in broad daylight while waiting for a bus on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. His case sparked one of the largest investigations in Australian history and captured the attention of the nation. Daniel became known nationwide as “The Boy in the Red Shirt”. Police did their best, but kept coming up short and for years the trail remained cold. Determined not to let Daniel be forgotten, his parents set up the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, kept Daniel’s story in the public eye, and ultimately pressed for a coronial inquest — a public inquiry that would become the catalyst for an operation that would turn the stalled investigation on its head. In the audacious plot that followed, Australian police took shocking risks and went to extraordinary lengths to unlock the case and bring the perpetrator — finally — to justice.
Through unprecedented access to the Morcombe family and detectives who worked on the case, Where is Daniel Morcombe? reveals the twists and turns of a decade-long investigation and reveals Daniel’s lasting legacy in protecting children all over the world. Throughout the season, listeners will question – how did this happen? Who is responsible? And how does Daniel’s legacy live on?
“There is something remarkable about Daniel’s story; it is deeply tragic, and yet somehow still uplifting. That type of story— one that can evoke such powerful emotions on both ends of the spectrum— is truly rare,” said host Matt Angel. “I knew in my bones the moment I heard it, that I had to do everything I could to share it with the world. Being given the opportunity to tell this story hand in hand with Bruce and Denise Morcombe, Daniel’s parents, has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. They are the definition of strength, and the world deserves to know them.”
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was created by Bruce and Denise Morcombe in honor of their son Daniel, and it continues to champion child safety and support families of missing children across Australia. The last Friday in October is known as Day for Daniel and it is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness event — reinforcing the message that keeping kids safe is a responsibility shared by the whole community.
Where is Daniel Morcombe? is hosted by Matt Angel (Wrath of Becky, The Lincoln Lawyer) and written and produced with Jo Barratt.
