today's brief

Italy’s Podcasting Festival opened Friday for its tenth edition, launching a two-week program of nationwide events, online broadcasts and industry workshops that underscore podcasting’s growing role in culture and media. The festival, directed by Ester Memeo, runs through Oct. 2 with sessions in cities from Trieste to Palermo and a global event planned for International Podcast Day on Sept. 30.

Highlights include keynote talks from U.S. media consultant Steven Goldstein on the pace of industry change and Arthur Larrey of Audion on audio-video integration, as well as the European Commission’s “EU Finance” podcast. The Milan program on Oct. 3–4 will feature live productions, networking events and the Podcast Summit on civic engagement, artificial intelligence and geo-localized storytelling. Sponsors include Acast, Audible, Yamaha Music Europe and Spotify.

In the U.S., creator media company Raptive this week launched a new show, “Ctrl Alt Ask,” offering practical advice for independent publishers navigating burnout, traffic loss and brand building. Hosted by Stephanie Woodin, a former Netflix publicity manager, the podcast will release biweekly episodes featuring industry leaders, including food bloggers Adam and Joanne Gallagher and DIY entrepreneur Jess Coppom. Listeners are invited to submit questions for upcoming shows.

Other developments in podcasting include a curated playlist of ten influential talks released by TED Talks Daily host Elise Hu, comedian Mel Giedroyc’s West End live debut of Sony Music’s “Where There’s a Will There’s a Wake,” and the concluding episodes of We Are North Nashville, a multimedia project preserving community voices. Together, the launches and finales point to a podcasting sector that continues to expand its reach, from European festival stages to grassroots storytelling in American neighborhoods.
