CBS News and “48 Hours” are expanding their popular “Post Mortem” podcast series into a video series. This continues the strategy of taking the franchise beyond broadcast.
“Post Mortem,” hosted by Anne Marie Green, is the popular companion podcast to weekly “48 Hours” episodes airing on CBS. That audio series will now also be available as a video series.
The “48 Hours” podcast feed, which is home to “Post Mortem,” was named on the Amazon Music lists of Top Shows of 2024, Most followed of 2024, Most requested on Alexa. It was also a top 10 Podtrac True Crime Show of 2024 (#6)
The new podcast video series will premiere on Thursday, March 6 and follow the Saturday March 1 airing of the new “48 Hours” episode - “The Hit and Run Homicide of Davis McClendon”
New episodes of “Post Mortem” will be available on the “48 Hours” YouTube channel and air Thursdays on the “48 Hours” FAST channel. More information on the FAST channel, which launched last year can be found HERE.
This is the first time a CBS News podcast will be produced as a video podcast series, and the first original content from CBS News to premiere on its “48 Hours” FAST channel.
“48 Hours” branded podcasts alone, including several limited series, have seen an increase in average monthly downloads of +14% year-over-year (a six-year growth trend, with an average 42% annual increase).
“Post Mortem” is just one of the successful productions created by the CBS News podcast team. In 2024, CBS News launched several new “48 Hours” host-led limited series, as part of an overall strategy to expand the franchise in audio and take on deeper dives for major cases.
Other original programming hosted by “48 Hours” correspondents in 2024 include:
Peter Van Sant’s “Blood is Thicker” – hit #1 this year on the Apple podcast charts and was named one of the Top New Shows on Apple Podcasts in 2024;
Erin Moriarty’s “Murder in the Orange Grove: The Troubled Case Against Crosley Green” – reached No. 6 on Apple’s overall podcast charts, while “My Life of Crime” remains a popular listen with true crime fans;
